What is Accessibility?
The term web accessibility refers to the computer systems' ability to deliver services and provide usable information, without discrimination, also to those in need of assistive technologies or special settings due to specific disabilities.
Our ongoing commitment
According to the last World Health Organization's Disability Report[1], about 15% of the world population lives with a disability condition.
At Chiesi we are committed to promote inclusiveness of all personal characteristics, both visible and invisible, that makes each individual unique.
In line with this commitment, we have implemented the necessary technical solutions to ensure the accessibility of the website www.chiesi.at. Currently, our website runs on different technologies and a friendly interface that allows people with disabilities to adapt the user interface of the website to their personal needs.
We will continue to monitor, update, and improve our tools in line with regulatory and technological developments.
Technologies supported on the chiesi.com
The technology we use is provided by AccessiWay and aims to make our website accessible to people with different kind of disabilities.
Supported disability profiles
- Epilepsy: it allows people with epilepsy to use the website safely, eliminating the risk of episodes derived from flashing animations and dangerous color combinations.
- Low Vision: it adjusts the website so that it is accessible to most people suffering from visual impairments such as degraded vision problems, peripheral vision problems, cataracts, glaucoma, and others.
- Cognitive disorders: it provides different assistive features to help people with cognitive disabilities such as autism, dyslexia, CVA, and others, to focus on the important elements of the page in a more fluid and accessible way.
- Attention disorders (ADHD): it significantly reduces distractions and noise to help people with ADHD and neurodevelopmental disorders to easily scroll, read, and focus on the essential items.
- Visual impairments (Screen-reader): it adjusts the website to be compatible with screen readers such as JAWS, NVDA, Voiceover and Talkback. A screen-reader is always installed on a blind user's computer, and AccessiWay's technology is compatible with this tool.
- Mobility impairments (Keyboard navigation): it allows people with mobility impairments to manage the website using the keys Tab, Shift+Tab and Enter, or even using shortcuts such as "M" (menu), "H" (headings), "F" (shapes), "B" (buttons) and "G" (graphics) to get to specific elements.
Further UI, design and readability features
- Font Adjustment: increase and reduce the font size, change the font type, adjust spacing, alignment, line spacing, and more.
- Color Adjustment: select different color contrast profiles such as light, dark, inverted and monochrome. In addition, users can customize color combinations for titles, texts and backgrounds, with over seven different coloring options.
- Animations: block all running animations (videos, GIFs, and flashing CSS transitions) with a single click.
- Content emphasis: emphasize important elements such as links or titles and to choose to highlight only focused or suspended elements.
- Mute function: instantly mute all audio tracks on the website.
- Cognitive Impairments: it enables the use of a search engine linked to Wikipedia and Wiktionary, allowing people with cognitive disorders to search for the meaning of sentences, initials, slang, and others, for a faster understanding.
- Other features: change the color and size of the cursor, use a print mode, activate a virtual keyboard, and more.
